Online writing can be one fun activity since you can access your references and do further research in just one click of the mouse. You don’t have to go rummaging through your old, bulky and dusty Dictionary or Thesaurus if you are unsure of a certain term, Wikipedia and Dictionary can be accessed easily. MS Word’s synonyms feature is a great help, too.
However, links on your references can make you jump from one website to another, which can pose to be actually counterproductive as it dilutes your attention from what you are writing.
So how do you get rid of distractions?
My distraction-busting tactic is I stick post-its with the bills to pay taped on them on my computer. I also use SideJobTrack, a very helpful project management tool. I enjoy its customized invoice templates that yes, shows how much of my output is putting food on the table. And I’ll never discount the timer, a kitchen timer. It says times up whenever i get too engrossed in surfing. So those are what distracts me from getting distracted.
