Work at Home Philippines

It’s the talk of the Philippine blogosphere. PayPal has now accepted Philippines as one of the countries allowed to receive payment through this money transfer service. A few months ago it’s only granted the ability to send money.

Thanks to PayPal4Ph.com for the lobbying of PayPal’s full functionalities, now remote Filipino workers don’t have to say no to clients who prefer to pay through PayPal. And maybe, we no longer have to put up with Xoom’s exorbitant exchange rates.

However, I won’t According to those who were able to successfully transfer money to Philippine PayPal accounts, there’s a need for a US bank account to get the money. Another option is through a Mastercard debit card.

It’s wise to wait for more reactions from other Philippine PayPal users before telling clients about this more convenient option, don’t you think?

How many of us just submit cover letters or even just plain resumes without really reading the whole job lead post’s instructions? One job poster will not tolerate such action and did this…

Im looking for somebody with skills to build a community site similar to facebook.com. The site will need to involve some flash, need to be able to show video clips, and I would need to be able to change and add banners and spots for advertisers.

Yesterday, while getting my VA work payout via Xoom, the Banco de Oro (BDO) teller who’s processing the money asked me where I got the money from. Although I used to find such questions as too intrusive, I’ve grown to actually consider them as a good chance to inform people about the viability of a home based career, which no doubt I love to talk about.

When I told the teller that the money is partial compensation for accomplishing research and data entry work for a client based in the USA, she gushed at me saying that I must really be enjoying this job.

“I love my job,” I replied. “But it’s not as easy as you think it is,” I also quickly added because I somewhat saw some stars in her eyes hinting illusions about working from home which I usually notice from people who haven’t really tried it yet.

Now again I’m not discouraging folks here but as I often remind everyone, there are pros and cons to working from home.

If you Google “data entry job” on the top of the results, you will find sources of data entry jobs that require the purchase of password, membership pass, etc. Isn’t that just so frustrating? But would you want to know something worse? It’s being led on to work as a data entry telecommuter when the truth is you are asked to do network marketing, recruiting more “data entry workers” as your downlines who will be required to purchase “kits”.

What are the signs that a data entry job is a scam?

If the job ad has any of these persuasive tactics – too many dollar signs $$$, too many exclamation points !!!, no experience requirement, too much emphasis on earning thousands of dollars depending on your performance, and the like.

If you’re asked to pay for anything upfront.

If you send an application and you quickly receive an email that instructs you to follow a link that leads to an irrelevant webpage. That email you received is an autosender that has hidden agenda.

No. I don’t want to discourage you if you are planning to work from home. But for those who are already running their own home based businesses or freelancing full-time, it’s inevitable that there is still something about the office away from home that you miss.

Aside from dealing with my laboratory assistants, I sure do miss planning the annual budget for the laboratory I used to work in. Sounds petty but I long for the motherly feeling that these tasks convey.

What about you? What do you miss about your office job? Or if you haven’t immersed yourself into any home based career, what do you think will you have a hard time letting go of?

6. Send Your Cover Letter and Resume

Before you send your cover letter through email, make sure your email address is decent enough. No hotwetmama666@yahoo.com.ph or anything like that. Follow instructions. Another tip is to include at once what best qualifies you to bag the job. Don’t send an email saying “Please send me more details about the job.” or anything that will make the person on the other end junk your application.

7. Prepare for an Online Interview

There’s this one person that I tried to help to get an online job. She followed each of my advice, from checking out the list of online job sources that I recommend, tailoring her resume for employers who are looking to hire someone they’d want to telecommute, writing the least annoying cover letter, and all. But there’s just one thing that I failed to help her get prepared for before sending her applications – preparing for online interviews. There are three major ways an employer can conduct an interview with an applicant using the Internet – through Skype or any VoIP service, instant messaging and email.
