Online Career Goals Update: July 2007

My home business goals announcement motivated me to do the best I can to succeed in every business-related task I get my hands on. When I wrote an update last April, I’m happy with how things are going. However, July surprised me…
1. Blog network jobs
With three of the few-months-old blogs shutting down because the client shifted his attention to another project, I’m left with just three blog network blogging jobs.
2. Blog monetization
Regarding my blog monetization earnings, here’s how my blogs fared during the second quarter:
AdSense – $86.33 (monthly average)
Text-Link-Ads – $29.87 (monthly average)
Total monthly blog earnings: $116.2 (versus $136.70 from the first quarter)
3. Blog content writing
I believe I went back to the same old frequency of writing posts – just a few times per month, which is so not my goal!
I forgot about hiring help right now. Yes, the one assistant I hired quit. I tried to hire a new one but she still wasn’t able to last long. So there. I gave up on this assistant thing for the time being. Maybe it’s not yet time.
So what happened with those three areas of my goals? Everything seems to go into a downward spiral, right?
If not for web content writing, I’d be found making friends with grease people (taong grasa), the vagrants, and asking them how they survive. Hey.. Yeah.. It’s the web content stint that’s making my attention dwindle down for my other goals. Not that I’m complaining. But I realized I’m not being the usual master multi-tasker that I vainly call myself.
What a wake-up call, isn’t it? I learned lots of lessons from this failure to keep the momentum on achieving my goals for this year. But it’s just July or should I say it’s already July?! Gotta clean up my act!

Hi Alfa,
I find your website very helpful and informative. I have been a working at home for the last 3 years. I started out as a business transcriptionist for a local online company and joined a writing team doing website content writing. Then my online angel (I call him that because he helped me start out with this wahm thing) taught me where and how to earn online. So from there I became a project hunter, and also doing content writing and trancriptionist. Well, lately I had to suspend my writing projects because a client turned dead beat on me. After turning over a month’s worth of articles, our relations went sour for personal reasons and he just disappeared without paying for them. Now I have shell out money to pay my writers. That’s just one of the risks one has to take in doing online work. Since November last year I have been working as a VA. So I can empathize with everything that you have posted in here. So to all Filipinos who would like to work at home, yes, that’s possible for as long as you possess the right skills set. So, good luck to all of us and more projects to come! =)

Hi Maying,
I also got one client who never paid for one month’s worth of projects. But she’s a she (and a Filipina at that) so I don’t think we had the same bad client. And yeah, I also paid my writers with my money.
I’m also doing subcontract work for virtual assistants. If you have some VA tasks that you don’t have enough time for, you may consider me.
Thanks for taking time to chime in.

[...] Pathetic, right? However, the big however is, I don’t know if I should rejoice or what that I lost some of my blogging tasks already. Although I’m sure I’m going to miss it, now I can have some sweet break from keeping up with the quotas and the blog promotion chores. Yes, I’m calling it just a break because I know myself so well that I know I won’t survive too long without more blogging jobs. So yeah, I’m again on the prowl.. for blogging jobs, that is. [...]
