Time Job vs Think Job: How Do You Deal
What kind of online job are you looking for? A time job or a think job?
A time job requires you to work on tasks that your employer or client can do but don’t have the time to. A think job is a kind of occupation that you are hired to do because your client or employer does not have the expertise to do it.
Most likely, a time job is more self-fulfilling and can be more financially rewarding. However, it’s a tad harder to look for these kinds of job online. It’s especially difficult to land these jobs since not many knows that they exist at all.
But time jobs, especially for freelancers, can be good stable sources of income when you don’t have a steady flow of source of income from your think job.
How do you categorize your sources of income? Here’s how I do it:
1. Think Jobs
I have a thinking job, which is about trying to manage a host of blogs that I own. They are under construction and would soon monetize them. I consider them as my thinking jobs because I conceptualized them and I get to control almost all the aspects of growing them to their full potential.
2. Time Jobs
Web content writing used to be a thinking job for me but when I started accepting projects that I outsource, aside from strategically assigning the best topics for the best writers, this job now only requires much of my time in stead of my brain. Although time jobs, can be time-consuming (really?), they suit me well since they’re the best excuse to forget about my thinking job for a while and feel somewhat like a 9to5′er even just for a while. I realized that there are some times that I just have to get a dose of the employee conundrums every once in a while just to stir things up. And, time jobs are the best source of this self-employment medicine.
3. Time/Think Jobs
Blogging for networks can be categorized under my time/think jobs category. They take my time composing writeups and require me to be creative for the blogs to take off. I enjoy time/think jobs because they satisfy both of my cravings – to be busy and to be always seemingly thinking.
The joys of self-employment, right? NOT! This setup, having a choice between time jobs and think jobs, can be great if you are one master multi-tasker. But what if an average Jane who’s just a tad skilled in multi-tasking is faced with the dilemma of wanting to focus more attention to her think jobs but her time jobs need her, too?
The thing is although I’d like to outsource my other time jobs I can’t because it doesn’t feel right. There’s no fun in outsourcing them. Finding web content writers is different from hiring someone who can act as a QA person for a not-so-popular task. Fun, eh?

I get a fairly equal share of time jobs and think jobs. For time jobs I usually pass them on to my subcontractors, whereas for think jobs I prefer to handle them myself. This is not to say that I give preference for think jobs than for time-based ones, as there are some of the latter I would rather deal with personally than pass it on to a subcon.

[...] Did I say new gig? Yes. I think I bagged a new project. It’s more of doing some virtual assistant chores. The tasks are quite easy since most of them requires me to work on social sites, which I definitely enjoy using. Another fun time job to get busy with. [...]
