Virtual Assistant Hourly Rates
I have learned through research that the average hourly rate of a virtual assistant is $35. It can even increase up to $50 if the virtual assistant will be entrusted with more demanding tasks such as conference preparation.
What a lucrative home-based job, don’t you think? If I’m not mistaken our Filipina nurses and caregivers are earning just as much. So, if you can be a virtual assistant in the Philippines while earning just as much as the more stressed nurses in other countries, why are there not much Filipinos taking on this online job?
Sure, the ”nurses are more in-demand” and “the benefits are not the same” reasons can’t be discounted. But if one is really after the benefits of being “more present” for his or her family without leaving the country, right? There goes my anti-brain-drain thing again.
Anyone who’s currently enjoying the benefits of being a virtual assistant in the Philippines, here? Any tips or help you can extend for those who would like to venture on this kind of home-based job?

Hi Alfa,
I’m a Virtual Assistant and a Filipino at that. There are other Filipino VAs out there, several of them whom I’ve had the chance to work with and/or meet online. I really enjoy doing this business, and to be able to garner respect as an equal from fellow VAs who are more veteran than I am is something of an additional perk.
The concept of a VA business is fairly new to the Filipino industry, and one that requires proper education. The most defining point about being a VA is that you are not an employee, but a business owner, so with that comes the requisite of having the proper mindset when one decides to venture in this industry. Also, there are those who think that being a VA is easy, and just by having a computer, an internet connection and some OS apps, they can become VAs themselves. It’s really quite the opposite. Like any other business, there are those that are meant to do well in this industry, and there are those who really aren’t cut for it.
At present there is no real standard for VAs, and it may not be possible to establish one in the near future, given the diversity of offerings provided and the scope covered. As for rates, each VA has their own set of rules, and to assess an average going rate can be deceiving, especially if one considers that not all VAs provide the same kind of services. There are those who focus mainly on accounting works or graphics/website design (and may charge higher for such), and others choose to concentrate on inbound/outbound call center services.
There’s a vast amount of resources online for the individual who wants to train and become a VA. As long as one has a business mindset, and has the skills to deliver the proper services or is willing to train (or train further) to develop them, and has a passion for helping other businesses and is good with dealing with people, then one has the capability to succeed in this business.
With regards,
Gabs

Chris,
Try Craigslist.com or BestJobs if there are any virtual assistant job opening available right now.
The job openings I post here might be filled up already.
Or you might want to ask Gabs (distantsupport.com) here who has a virtual assistant company. He might have a vacancy you know.
