An interesting article by All Business’ Frank Ross clarified two work from home arrangements.
Here’s the telecommuting dichotomy:Â
1. Starting your own home-based business
2. Working from home for someone else
Working from home for someone else includes jobs like data entry, virtual assistance, general transcription, etc. Americans and other people from developed countries may not earn sustainable income from this work from home arrangement as. But we Filipinos usually do get a good livelihood out of these jobs especially if their clients are foreigners since we are paid dollars which is more than 50 times the value of the Philippine peso. Moreover, working for someone else develops one’s expertise on a certain task. And eventually, if a person has a strong entrepreneurial spirit that expertise and experience can be utilized to put up a business. I have worked with a number of people who started from working from home for someone else and became their own boss manning their own businesses after learning the trade.
As for why arrangements such as working from home for someone else thrives, Frank’s supposition is that…
They do offer the elusive dream of spending less time commuting, spending more time with family, and raising the general quality of life.
Aside from the fact that not too many such as Filipinos and other people from third world countries can shell out the meager capital that a home-based business would require, having more family time definitely outweighs higher paychecks, which eventually might be earned while at home, too.Â
