Funemployment is a new term that means deriving enjoyment from unemployment by doing what others call soul searching, traveling, etc.

It’s a growing trend for the 20-something and 30-somethings. But I do not think it will catch on in the Philippines. One of the top reasons for this is that our culture discourages us from working just for ourselves. And sure, color me old-fashioned but I know that whatever we’ve earned and saved if any while we’re still employed many still do no want to spend it on mindless beach combing.

It all boils down to having the money to make sure unemployment becomes funemployment. An unemployed broke can’t enjoy funemployment? Who knew?

Have you ever used the public domain to make money online? I’ve never tried it before but I know that many are earning lots from this source of income. For the uninitiated, public domain is when a product such as a book, music, photos, software and other media’s copyright expires. These products then can be legally copied and resold for profit.

According to Wikipedia, a product’s copyright is considered expired if the product was created and first published before January 1, 1923, or at least 95 years before January 1 of the current year, whichever is later;

Here are ways that you can earn from public domain products:

- Create infoproducts such as e-books that you can resell

- Use public domain books as site content

- As a marketing tool, you can use public domain products as freebies to earn newsletter subscribers

Due to the popularity of this work setting, a Co-working Wiki was put up. I’ve noticed that Philippines is not in the list of those with co-working stations.

I’m sure that with the boom of home-based virtual assistance business in the Philippines and other online businesses, these co-working stations will definitely have a place here.

Are you one of the many haters of this piece of career advice? No? Great, we’re friends then. Kidding aside, I’m always for this . If I don’t like what I’m doing it will be very difficult for me to advance in that field. Because of that, I only say yes to jobs that I’ll still continue doing even without getting paid such as blogging and Internet research now so that I can soon master these activities so well I’d be paid hefty hefty amount of money.

Seriously, if I’m left with the choice of working on anything without any compensation except personal satisfaction, it’s going to be job searching for other people AND tasting food.

Now how about you? What work would you do even without getting salary from doing it? You don’t have to post your name or real email address if you don’t feel like telling me who you are. But I’m very interested to know what people would do for nothing. Share your jobs-for-no-pay choices.

This might not apply to other religions, but for many Roman Catholics, the Holy Week (March 19-23) is a big deal and it should be observed properly.

So if you are a work-from-home entrepreneur in the Philippines or even in other countries, how do you observe the Holy Week?

My family’s usually extremely busy during the Holy Week. Aside from the traditional self-flagellating or pamagdarame, we help in managing the business since it’s one of the busiest time of the year business-wise.

I am not going to make myself fully-available to my clients who require regular communication through instant messaging. But I will still be doing non-urgent tasks so that I can be of help to my family this year.

Actually, I wasn’t able to do it well – maintaining to accomplish some tasks for my clients while having to stay overnight for three straight days to attend my Grandfather’s wake, who passed away last February 20.

It’s a good thing one of my clients whom I regularly communicate with via instant messaging was kind enough to let me have a break.

However, the drive to create posts for the blog network blogs I write for dwindled.

Replying to emails was the most challenging because I can’t entrust this activity to anyone else just yet. As a result, I lost one project that one of my favorite clients offered to me.

The routine tasks like social network site accounts maintenance and re-posting blogs were done smoothly with the help of my meta-VA’s.

I, therefore, conclude that although I’m thankful that I have a trusty team that helps me get through these bad events in my life, I should also learn to trust others to perform email managemement. And make it a habit to future-post blog writeups.

With lots of distractions nowadays – gadgets, text messages, friends visiting and in my case, a fidgety two-year-old niece, it’s a never-ending battle to keep your productivity in tip-top shape.

So how do I keep myself productive? Currently, my to-do list written on a gigantic whiteboard staring at me the whole day makes me get things done like all of my clients are breathing down my neck.

Aside from this too drastic method of pushing oneself to make sure things are flowing smoothly, I’m sure there are more methods to do this.

Having the time to check emails religiously, not the whole day, but only at a certain time of the day, and knowing how to answer queries can help you in getting hired by busy entrepreneurs needing people to handle their piles of emails.
